Possible causes

Deteriorated generator winding insulation
High voltage cables rubbing against chassis
Excessive moisture in generator junction box
Electrical component (fan motor) with short to ground

Recommended actions

Perform insulation test (Megger) on generator
Visually inspect power cables for chafing
Dry and clean the alternator terminal box
Disconnect loads one by one to isolate failed component
