Possible causes

Output cable rubbing against unit chassis
Battery with shorted internal plate
Defective 12V auxiliary accessories
Damaged charger output connector

Recommended actions

Inspect charger output wiring harness
Test battery with a conductance analyzer
Disconnect external loads to locate the short
Check battery terminals and insulators
